A passion for reading leads to teaching others.
Congratulations to our second Community Hero – Karabo Lekalakala.
Karabo Lekalakala followed her passion for teaching others and recently graduated with a B. Ed. Even as a young girl, Karabo loved sharing her knowledge with other members of her community, often helping her friends and peers achieve better marks at school. The older people in her community affectionately referred to her as ‘mistress’ because of her love for teaching. Currently, Karabo offers her services free of charge at a school in Mahwalereng, Limpopo Province.
“It is not everyday that somebody volunteers, but she does. Because she believes the knowledge and the skills she is passing on to the learners at school is worth so much more than money. She teaches them without expecting anything in return. She goes to school even when she is not feeling well because she doesn’t want to let the kids down. She loves and cares for others more than herself.” Says her nominator.
