Cashbuild joins the nation in marking Nelson Mandela centenary by building a house for a family in Lawley.

Cashbuild partnered The Habitat for Humanity and the Nelson Mandela Foundation in building 70 houses for the community of Lawley in Johannesburg. Imbued by the spirit of Madiba, Cashbuild employees dedicated time from 16-20 July 2018 assisting the community of Lawley in building houses. Cashbuild assisted in building a house for the Khoabane family.

The family, headed up Refiloe a single mother with two children has been living in a shack since 2000 and through this initiative the Khoabane family will now have a proper roof over their heads. Head of Cashbuild Community Support Initiatives, Thembelani Tukwayo says Cashbuild's contribution to this project is line with Mandela's spirt of partnership. "There is no better way to honour Madiba than to assist those in need and the provision of shelter is a basic human right and no one must be denied that right in 2018. Shelter provides dignity and pride and this house is going to ensure that for the first time in their life this family will have a roof over their heads. As Cashbuild we take great pride in assisting and uplifting the communities where we trade and our contribution last week was a clear demonstration of that." Refiloe expressed her gratitude at what Cashbuild employees did.

"I am happy that this house will finally give us dignity and we will have proper shelter and this is important for us as we have been experiencing terrible cold weather recently," says the unemployed mother of two children.

Cashbuild is a strong believer in supporting communities where we trade and this Nelson Mandela International Day project is a clear demonstration of that.
