Welkom gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Children of all ages will now be able to study at St Dominic’s College from 2010. This is because St Dominic’s entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and is one of the eight lucky schools that received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the
value of R12 000.
“We are happy to find out that we will be one of the schools receiving the donation from Cashbuild,” said Mrs Wilma Lindsay, the Business Manager at the school. “Now we can extend the
pre-school by adding another classroom and fulfill our dream of accommodating children as young as 0 months,” she added.
The donation of building materials to the value of R96 000 were presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Welkom Central store opening ceremony on 10 June 2009. At the opening, the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Welkom Central opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate for first, second and third place respectively. The manager’s choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day - Desmond Mabena from Riebeeckstad Pre Primere Skool received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
