Welkom schools benefit from learner creativity

A brand new jungle gym, a fresh coat of paint and paving are just a few of the things on the wish list for the eight winning Welkom schools. Aurora and Bedelia Primary School are two of the schools which have each received Cashbuild building material vouchers after winning the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. On 2 October, 2014, building material vouchers to the value of R96 000 were handed over to the winners at the Cashbuild Welkom Store Opening Ceremony.

Aurora Primary’s Deputy Principle Mr. Jaco Joubert said: “We are so thankful to Cashbuild for choosing our school as one of the winners. We will use our voucher to build a jungle gym for our Grade R’s.” At the official Cashbuild Welkom store opening ceremony on 2 October, when the building material vouchers totaling R96 000 were presented to the eight schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Sibongile Mlangeni from Aurora Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy. The schools and children that benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations were:
