Tzaneen gets R108 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
The learners of Botludi Primary School will no longer be faced with the daunting task of explaining to their parents why they lost their shoes at school and they also won’t have to go home barefoot in the cold and rainy weather and wish ill health. Botludi Primary School is one of nine lucky schools in Tzaneen that received a Cashbuild building material donation to the value
of R12 000, having entered the Cashbuild Art-at-heart competition.
The Principal of Botludi Primary School, Mosibubi Ratlabala was overjoyed to find out that Cashbuild will be giving them a donation, as she has been praying for a windfall for ages. “Our school is situated on top of a mountain with red soil. Because of that , when it rains, the classrooms are filled with mud and it has become unbearable. The children have to take off their shoes on such days and because they are so young, and because the shoes are mostly the same, they end up getting misplaced,” said Ms Ratlabala. The school plans to use the donation for paving purposes to prevent the problem recurring.
“I am faced with the frustration of having to explain to angry parents why their childrens’ shoes have gone missing, so I am truly happy that the donation has finally come.” added Ms Ratlabala.
The donation of building materials to the value of R108 000 were presented by Cashbuild to the nine schools at the Tzaneen store opening ceremony on 26 June 2009. At the opening, the school children entertained everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Tzaneen opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate for first, second and third place respectively. The manager’s choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – M.J. Bensch from Duiwelskloof Primary School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
