Much needed facilities for Tshaneni Central schools

A fresh coat of paint, a feeding scheme and new classrooms are just a few things planned for schools in the Tshaneni Central area. Learners from each school submitted artwork as part of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and learners from eight schools with the best artwork won for their schools. Vuvulane, Malibeni and Mhlume Primary School are three of the eight schools that each received Cashbuild building materials vouchers to the value of E 12 000 on 19 March 2014 at the Cashbuild Tshaneni Central Store Opening Ceremony.

Principal A.A Mthembu from Vuvulane Primary School was overwhelmed with joy. He said: “Our school currently has too few toilets for the amount of learners we have. We would like to use our Cashbuild voucher to build 10 toilets, to purchase paint for the school and to erect a feeding scheme at the school.”

Malibeni Primary School’s Principal J.H. Dlamini said: “We would love to paint and renovate the school. To conduct the renovations, we will need corrugated iron and timber from Cashbuild.” Principal R.S Mathonsi from Mhlume Primary School’s said: “The school has been in the process of erecting one more grade one classroom before we ran out of funds. We would like to use our voucher to complete this project.” At the official Cashbuild Tshaneni Central store opening ceremony on 19 March, when the building material vouchers totaling E 96 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the lucky winner, Collen Thembe from Vuvulane Primary School for the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
