Thulamahashe gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Mahlambadlopfu Primary School plans to build a computer centre in the school’s library. This will allow learners to master necessary basic computer skills. The school is able to build the computer centre because it entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and is one of eight lucky schools in the Thulamahashe area which each received a R12 000 Cashbuild building materials voucher.
“We are currently using the staffroom as a computer centre and it’s far too small to accommodate 30 computers let alone all the learners and of course it means that the staff doesn’t have a proper meeting room either”, said Mrs Dudu Mabaso, Principal of Mahlambandlopfu. “Currently, we have 15 computers, but as soon as the computer centre is ready, we will be able to double this number so that all the learners will have access to computers.”
The donation of building materials to the value of R 96 000 was presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Thulamahashe store relaunch ceremony on 25 November 2009. At the opening, the school children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Thulamahashe opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – Collins Mkhabela from Manyakatane Primary School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9 -million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
