A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR SWAKOPMUND LEARNERS

A fresh coat of paint, upgraded sanitary facilities and general maintenance around the schools are just a few of the important renovations that Festus Gonteb, Hanganeni and Swakopmund Primary Schools have planned to do now that they have won the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. These three and five other schools each received Cashbuild building material vouchers to the value of N$15 000 each on 25 September 2015 at the Cashbuild Swakopmund Store Opening Ceremony.

Festus Gonteb Primary School's principal, Mrs E Ipinde said their school's exterior is in dire need of painting and they would like to upgrade the school's pavement as it is quite dusty which causes a lot of mud during rainy weather conditions. Hanganeni Primary School's principal Mrs C Ntelamo said they would like to thank Cashbuild for being so generous. Their school is in desperate need of refurbished bathrooms as they cannot flush them and that is very unhealthy. Swakopmund Primary School's principal, Mr E Jjomuinjo added to say they would like to maintain the school so they will now buy paint, cement, bricks as well as doors with their voucher.

At the official Cashbuild Swakopmund store opening ceremony on 25 September 2015, when the building material vouchers totaling N$120 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager's Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Josef Jason from Tamariskia Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
