Renovations and more for Stanger schools Eight schools in the Stanger area have each won a Cashbuild building materials voucher for R12 000 and these were presented to them at the official Cashbuild Stanger store opening ceremony on.
The staff of Kearsney Primary entered the Cashbuild competition hoping they would be able to build a tuck shop. The school's Principal, Jugdeep Deodat, explained: "There are just not enough buildings within our school, the tuck shop area consisted of someone standing outside with a stall, selling goods. A tuck shop will also be a means of raising funds for the underprivileged learners."
Hansrajh Hurilal, Deputy Principal of Glenhills Primary School is ecstatic that they have won the voucher. He said: "We plan to renovate the entire school; we want to replace broken windows and doors, as well as repaint some of the classrooms. Thank you so much Cashbuild, you have made a big difference in the lives of the staff and learners here at Glenhills Primary."
"We are going to install brand new toilets for our 1400 learners", said a grateful Ralph Nxumalo, Deputy Principle of Enkukwini Primary.
At the official Cashbuild Stanger store opening ceremony on 11 November, when the building materials vouchers totaling R96 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the Stanger ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager's Choice award was also presented to the lucky winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – Tiara Gouden from Stanger Manor Primary School received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
The schools that benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations and the children that received the certificates are:

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched ten years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 1 200 schools with over R12-million worth of building materials.
Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region's most needy schools.
