Protea Glen gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
The learners of Bonamelo Primary School will soon be over the moon when they see their new brightly painted classroom. Bonamelo Primary School is one of the eight lucky schools that each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of
R12 000 as part of the Art-at-Heart competition.
Bonamelo School Principal, Ntombentle Nkosi was excited when she learnt that the school was going to receive the donation. “We will use the donation to paint all 29 classrooms in cream, gold and brown to create a brightened learner-friendly environment,” she said. “The rest of the money will be used to install a new ceiling for the staff room to keep the teachers dry and cheerful,” added Mrs Nkosi.
The donation of building materials to the value of R96 000 were presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Protea Glen store opening ceremony on 19 June 2009. At the opening, the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Protea Glen opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate for first, second and third place respectively. The manager’s choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – Samukelo Ntlangani from Khuthala Primary School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
