Port Shepstone gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Cashbuild art-at-heart helps upgrade school bathrooms
Dr Balenthran Gounden, headmaster of Marburg Primary School in Port Shepstone, was one of eight principals in the Port Shepstone area celebrating Thursday 16 October 2008. They were beneficiaries of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart campaign, and his school was one of the lucky Port Shepstone schools that received a R12 000 Cashbuild building material voucher.
Dr Gounden will use the donation to revamp the schools’ bathrooms. The donations were presented at Cashbuild’s official store opening which took place on 16 October 2008. The school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing. Children from each of the schools submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild, which was on display at the Port Shepstone store opening, and, more importantly, will be in the Port Shepstone store for the next five years.
The best art work from the eight schools was judged and each school had three winners who each received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate. The manager’s choice award – the overall winner of the artwork competition - was Ntandoyenkosi Memela from Port Shepstone Primary and this lucky overall learner received a stationary voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over 9 million rands worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant, and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
