BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR PIET RETIEF SCHOOLS

A newly built kitchen, garden equipment as well as roofing equipment were some of the upgrades that Piet Retief school principals plan to make as a result of having won the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Altogether, eight Piet Retief schools each received a Cashbuild building materials voucher worth R15 000 which was presented at the Cashbuild Piet Retief Store Opening Ceremony held on the 9th of March 2016.

The Principal of Vulandhlela Primary School, S Hlathwayo said they appreciate the gesture very much. They would like to build a mini kitchen as they currently cook outside using three legged pots. The Principal of Piet Retief Primary added to say that they are sincerely pleased by the news. Their learners have kept the school in a good condition. The one thing they need is some garden equipment because they enjoy being able to grow their own food.

The Principal of Mahamba Primary School, M Matome said they are currently at the finishing stage of building two classrooms so the Cashbuild voucher will help them with some roofing equipment, windows, doors and door locks.

At the official Cashbuild Piet Retief store opening ceremony held on the 9th of March 2016, when the building material vouchers totaling R120 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Ngobile Makowa from Piet Retief Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
