Numbi Gate schools get much needed donations

A new kitchen, classrooms and general repairs are all the repair projects that Numbi Gate schools can look forward to carrying out after winning the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Majika Primary School, Lindani Primary School and Siyafundza Primary School are three of the eight schools that entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart Competition and won building material vouchers to the value of R12 000 at the Cashbuild Numbi Gate Store Opening Ceremony on 29 May 2014.

Principal O.G Khoza from Majika Primary School’s said: “We would like to paint the classrooms, pave the school entrance and build four brand new classrooms for our learners.”

Lindani Primary School’s Principal K.S Malomane said: “We are in desperate need of a feeding scheme at the school. We will be using our Cashbuild voucher to build a kitchen to prepare meals for our learners.” Siyafundza Primary School’s Principal A.H Maphosa said: “We have 1600 learners at the school and too few classrooms to accommodate them. We would like to put our voucher to good use and build new classrooms.”

At the official Cashbuild Numbi Gate store opening ceremony on 29 May, when the building material vouchers totaling R96 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Lucky Nkomo from Majika Primary School for the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
