IMPROVEMENTS FOR NEWCASTLE SCHOOLS

New improvements are taking place in eight winning schools in Newcastle, thanks to the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Hlabana Primary School and Ntobeko Primary School were two of the winning schools. All these schools each received a Cashbuild building materials voucher worth R15 000, at the Cashbuild Newcastle Store Opening Ceremony held on 29 May 2015. A fully fenced vegetable garden, newly painted walls and refurbished standards of classrooms are some of the desires that the school principals said they have for their schools.

Mrs Buthelezi, principal of Hlabana Primary School said her learners were hysterical with joy, having experienced problems with the cattle grazing in their vegetable garden, they are going to finally fully fence the garden. Mr Mazibuko, principal of Ntobeko Primary school added while thanking Cashbuild that they were over the moon and they are going to pain the classrooms so that they can look as good as new.

At the official Cashbuild Newcastle Store opening ceremony held on the 29th of May 2015, the learners entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. Cashbuild building material vouchers totaling R120 000 were presented to all eight schools. The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Managerís Choice award was also presented to the overall winner, Sanele Ncwane from Ezincwadini Primary School. This award was announced on the day and the winner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
