Musina gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Learners at Musina Primary School will no longer have to queue to make use of the toilet facilities thanks to their entry into the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The school is one of eight lucky winners in the Musina area that each received a R12 000 Cashbuild building materials voucher as a result of their entry.
Musina Primary School Principal, Mr Dave Diener explains: “We plan on using the donation to improve the toilet facilities for the learners by fitting new toilets and renovating the bathroom; currently the toilet system that we have uses up too much water and results in a hefty bill that we can’t afford at the end of the month.”
“We are really thankful to Cashbuild for this donation; it will ensure that the learners have adequate toilet facilities and a hygienic area, and at the same time we will be able to save water”, added Mr Diener.
The total donation of building material to the value of R96 000 were presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Musina store opening ceremony on 27Th May 2010. At the opening, the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Musina opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
The best artwork from the eight schools was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day –Muleya Livhuwani from Musina High School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.
At the store opening event there was a lucky draw and one school walked away with a solar geyser and free installation. This prize will ensure that the winning school has hot water regardless of the lack of resources within their community.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 1000 schools with over R10.5-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
