Mkhuhlu gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Ian Mackenzie Primary School plans to build a school hall to be used for assemblies and as an exam venue. Currently, the learners write their exams in small, cramped classrooms and have to gather outside for assembly – sometimes in extreme temperatures.
The school entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and is one of eight lucky schools which each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R12 000 - the dream of having a school hall will soon become a reality.
Mr Jabulani Nzima, Principal of Ian Mackenzie Primary School was pleased to find out that the school had won the building material voucher from Cashbuild. “Once we have built the hall to accommodate all the learners at the school, they will have leg room and plenty of ventilation,” said an excited Mr Nzima.
The donation of building materials to the value of R 96 000 was presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Mkhuhlu store relaunch ceremony on 26 November 2009. At the opening, the school children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Mkhuhlu opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – Hector Nyalunga from Homuzeya Primary School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.
