Matatiele gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
The learners of Matatiele Primary school will soon be educated under one roof and all the children will be together. Some of the school’s classes have been taking place in a church a few kilometers away and, as the Principal of Matatiele Primary School, Olga Setsubi explains: “We cannot afford the expense of travelling to the church so we want to expand our school and add three classrooms.” Matatiele Primary School is one of eight lucky schools that received a Cashbuild building material donation to the value of R12 000 as part of the Art-at-Heart competition.
The donation of building materials to the value of R96 000 were presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Matatiele store opening ceremony on 13 May 2009. At the opening, the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Matatiele opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate for first, second and third place respectively. The manager’s choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day- Lehakoe Mothibeli from ST Monica’s Diocesan School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9-million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
