CASHBUILD BRINGS GOOD NEWS TO EIGHT SCHOOLS IN HUMANSDORP

Eight schools in Humansdorp, Eastern Cape, were the lucky winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. The schools each received a Cashbuild building material voucher to the value of R15 000 at the opening ceremony of the refurbished Cashbuild Humansdorp store that took place on the 18th of October 2018. Repairing storm damaged areas and building a tuck-shop were on the wish list for some of the winning schools.

The principal of Clarkson Primary School, Mr R Booysen, was so happy on hearing the news from Cashbuild Art-At-Heart: "In July this year, we merged with another school to become Clarkson Primary School. This means we have many more children and we are hoping that we can build a tuck-shop as this will be a huge help when we do fundraisers for the school."

Kruisfontein Primary School's principal, Mr Groenewald was so grateful to learn that his school was one of the winning schools: "Earlier this year, the boys bathroom roofs and ceilings were damaged quite badly in a storm, so that will be our main focus as we cannot have the learners going to the bathroom in those conditions. We will also be looking at painting some classrooms that could do with a fresh coat and maybe we will have enough to fix one of our prefab buildings outside too. Thank you so much Cashbuild!"

At the opening ceremony of the refurbished Cashbuild Humansdorp store, that took place on the 18th of October 2018, when the building material vouchers totaling R120 000 were handed out to the eight winning schools, the children entertained everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.

The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next six years.

Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager's Choice award was judged and presented to a learner from Mzingisi Primary School who was the overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day and the winning learner received a stationery pack and a glass trophy. The winner was given the honour of officially opening the refurbished store.
