Gugulethu gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Siyazinga Primary School plans to build shelves in the school’s library so that all the learners’ books, portfolios, school information and text books may be filed correctly and be easily accessible in the future.
The school is able to renovate the library because it entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and is one of eight lucky schools in the Gugulethu area to each received a Cashbuild building material donation to the value of R12 000.
“Currently we have book corners made out of boxes in each classroom and the books are becoming damaged because they are not packed appropriately, making it hard to use for learning purposes. We are really pleased about this donation”, said Gcobani Mtsi Principal of the school.
The donation of building materials to the value of R 96 000 was presented by Cashbuild to the eight schools at the Gugulethu store opening ceremony on 29 October 2009. At the opening, the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
Learners from each school submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild. The artwork was displayed at the Gugulethu opening ceremony, and will remain on display for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award was also presented to the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day – Simbongile Dantile from Litha Primary School received a stationery voucher and a glass trophy.
