Gaborone West gets P84 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Eight schools in Gaborone West have each won a Cashbuild building materials voucher for P10 500 and these were presented to them at the Cashbuild Gaborone store opening ceremony on 24 February 2011.
Phaphane Primary School entered the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition hoping to create something sustainable because the school needs to raise funds for ongoing maintenance. Their Cashbuild voucher will be very useful indeed because the school plans to build a mini tuck-shop which will, in turn, generate additional funds to help the school be more sustainable in future.
The Principal of Phaphane Primary School, Mrs. Agatha Lekone is delighted: We think we are being very clever in putting this voucher to such good use because it will help us cover costs in the future. Thank you Cashbuild!
The Principal of another school that entered the competition, Diphetogo Primary School, Ms. Ogomoditse Leshomo, said: We will buy bricks, cement and sand with this voucher in order to pave the ground between the classrooms. During the rainy season, lots of mud builds up and the water cannot pass through. We are going to pave the space in between nine classrooms and we are so excited that this problem will soon be solved.
At the official Cashbuild store opening on 24 February, when the vouchers totaling P84 000 were presented to all eight schools, the children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork was displayed at the Gaborone West opening ceremony, and will remain on display at the Cashbuild store for the next five years.
Artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. The winning children received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Managers Choice award was also presented to the lucky winner of the artwork competition. This award was announced on the day Kitso Kgotlane from St Bernards Primary School received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
At the store opening event, there was a lucky draw, and one school walked away with a solar geyser and free installation. This prize could ensure that the winning school has hot water regardless of the lack of resources within their community.
