Brits gets R96 000 from Cashbuild's Art-at-Heart
Ms Raphuti, Principal of Katakane Primary School in Brits, no longer needs to worry about the hygiene of her learners. This is because Ms Raphuti entered Katakane Primary School into the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition and is one of eight schools in the Brits area who received a R12 000 building material donation from Cashbuild.
“We plan on using the donation to improve the bathrooms to ensure our learners have hygienic facilities,” says Ms Raphuti. “Currently the toilets are not in a functional state and need urgent attention.”
The donations, to the value of R96 000, were presented at the official Cashbuild Brits store opening ceremony on 6 February 2009 where the school children showed their appreciation by entertaining everyone present with cultural dances, theatrical performances and traditional singing.Children from each of the schools submitted their best artwork to Cashbuild, which was displayed at the Brits store on the day of the opening ceremony, and will be displayed in the store for the next five years.
The best artwork from the eight schools was judged and each school had three winners who each received a Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificate. The manager’s choice award, which is the lucky overall winner of the artwork competition, was announced on the day – Tiaan van Niekerk from Laerskool Brits received a R500 stationery voucher and a glass trophy.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched in 2001, Cashbuild has helped more than 870 schools with over R9 -million worth of building materials. Cashbuild is BEE compliant and every time a store is opened, relocated or refurbished, Cashbuild not only makes donations to local schools, but also creates jobs for community members.
The Art-at-Heart competition is a national Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the country’s most needy schools.
