Art-at-heart helps unlock the door for learners

Delayed Blantyre school projects will now be completed thanks to the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Catholic Institute Primary School and St Kizito Boys Primary School are two of the seven schools that will each win building materials vouchers to the value of MK 400 000 on 5 December 2013 at the Cashbuild Blantyre Store Opening Ceremony. Head teacher, Theresa Sumani from St Kizito Boys Primary School was very excited about the school’s win. She said: “Our school was built in 1926 and is in dire need of a fresh coat of paint. We are planning to paint the school inside and out and repair the school.” Catholic Institute Primary School’s Headmaster Vincent Kapangama said: “We are planning to build a library for our learners with our building materials voucher. We currently do not have an allocated room for the learners to read quietly.”

At the official Cashbuild Blantyre store opening ceremony on 5 December, when the building materials vouchers totaling MK 2 800 000 are presented to all seven schools, the children entertain everyone with singing, cultural dances and theatrical performances. The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition entails learners from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork is displayed at the ceremony, and then remains on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

Artwork will be judged and three winners from each school will be named. Winners will receive Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively. The Manager’s Choice award will also be presented to the lucky winner of the artwork competition. This award will be announced on the day and the winner will receive a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
